With COVID-19 cases back on the rise, many Holocaust Survivors are once again afraid to leave their homes. Basic tasks like purchasing groceries or visiting friends and family are incredibly difficult for Survivors who fear their health.
Even worse, many of these Survivors live alone and below the poverty line.
If Holocaust Survivors can’t leave their homes, how will they have food for the upcoming Jewish holidays?
With Meir Panim’s innovative Meals-on-Wheels program, devoted volunteers deliver nutritious meals to homebound Holocaust Survivors each day. During these visits, volunteers are trained to check on the Survivors’ well-being and ensure they have the necessities and medical care they need.
For many homebound Survivors, these daily visits are the only social interaction and access to care they receive regularly. It’s a highlight of their day.This holiday season, there will be THOUSANDS of Holocaust Survivors stuck at home. Whether it be due to COVID-19 quarantines, declining health, or anything else, Meir Panim will be there delivering thousands of meals to homebound Holocaust Survivors throughout Israel, so they can receive the support they deserve from the comfort of their homes.
Leah, one of the many Survivors Meir Panim supports, shares the incredible feelings of loneliness she experienced during the first COVID-19 lockdown, not long after getting over the loss of her husband. Through daily phone calls and support from our Meals-on-Wheels program, Leah credits Meir Panim with saving her life. Meir Panim is committed to ensuring that Holocaust Survivors have the physical and emotional support they need without risking their health.
