Let’s come back to your last communication to Adam L. Tucker on 12 March 2009 by which time Mr. Tucker had clued me in to his revealing dialogue with you, and in turn I was speaking directly with my father Bernie Gevisser who hadn’t forgotten not only why he came top of his class at Fighter Bomber Pilot training but from the moment he began flying alongside veterans, legends in fact with Syd Cohen standing head and shoulders above everyone in very elite Fighter Bomber 11 Squadron, my father was the top pick as wingman to the very best.
Smuts’ 11 Squadron was the precursor to Israel Air Force’s only fighter squadron 101 Squadron during her War of Independance [1947-1949], where the Egyptian army was the strongest.
It was only in Egypt that my father met up with Syd Cohen before the entire 11 Squadron moved north to northern Italy passing through Foggia where SAAF Squadron 60 had photographed earlier in the year Jews lining up for entry into the gas chambers of Auschwitz which confirmed the eyewitness accounts of the many escapies numbering into the hundreds which really didn’t bother Hitler at all, because it showed him that the world also didn’t care about saving the lives of Jewish people.
In Egypt my father only flew, and it was only training, on the most advanced, complex Spitfires which future enemies of Israel including Egypt would have in sufficient numbers to make it most difficult for the IAF to survive, barring a miracle.
