A new documentary about Liwan
Hi,
My name is Adam Newby. I’m a photographer and filmmmaker. I’m writing to you about a documentary I am helping to produce along with my friend Doris Hakim, who is an artist from Nazareth and a friend of Sami, Sally and Silke from Liwan.
The documentary aims to talk about how Liwan was set up, including the challenges and obstacles its founders had to overcome to create it, and more generally about ‘cultural resistance’ in Palestine, specifically on the part of Palestinians living inside the state of Israel. It also talks about broader political issues: the legal status of Palestinians inside the state of Israel; how the Israeli state suppresses and marginalises Palestinians and their culture, etc.
We think this a chance to say something about the Israel-Palestine issue from a different, more positive angle.
We have already shot a lot of footage, and are now looking to raise money via crowdfunding to do post-production of the film – editing, sound, titles, etc – using local people from Nazareth.
