During WW2, Joe was a top RAF engineer which didn’t mean Joe failed to recognize the qualities of my Allied Fighter Bomber Pilot father Bernie with 71 miraculous dive-bombing missions tucked under his belt when still 21 years of age, when my mother began dating my father soon after arriving in Durban after spending 2 weeks in Cape Town at the 5 Star Mt. Nelson Hotel where my mother first met General Jan Christiaan Smuts [24 May 1870 – 11 September 1950] who kept a permanent suite at the Mt. Nelson.
