Jaklyn Fior Keen and Gary Gevisser FB conversations.
Jaklyn Fior Keen – March 25, 2013 1:48 pm Pacific Standard Time
Hello my name is Jaklyn, sorry to bother. I grew up in South Africa till my mid teens and my mother and I now reside in the U.S for the the past decade or so. I am writing because I was curious if you were related to Moshal Gevisser the packaging company from the fifties and sixties? My mother gave me a coffee tin by Gipsy coffee and was wondering its origins. If this is not you never mind and sorry to bother you.
Gary Gevisser – March 25, 2013 2:49 pm PST
Yes I am the grandson of Israel Issy Gevisser [circa 1890-1970] who was the most important co-founder of The Moshal Gevisser Group of Companies [1910-1970].
Below is an ad for Gipsy Coffee from the January 1967 edition of Hashalom.
BTW, on March 16, 1978 I emigrated from South Africa to the US and 7 days after I arrived in Chicago alongside my father Bernie, a most accomplished World War II Allied Fighter Bomber Pilot and “favored” son of Issy, I celebrated my 21st birthday and quite aware that when my dad was my age he had survived 71 miraculous missions dive-bombing the crap out of the Nazi bastards who if only one of the bullets fired at his American made Kittyhawk fighter-bomber had found their mark then chances of me being around to tell a most remarkably uplifting story would be zero.
If you are not willing to part with that tin which would mean the world to me, could you please send me a photo of it.
I am currently in Paris with my French-Canadian wife Marie Dion; and it won’t be long now before I publish my book D-Money Lie that picks up where The Diamond Invention book ends; and the first date mentioned in this most interesting read non-fiction novel written by Hollywood blockbuster author Edward Jay Epstein is 1967.
Jaklyn Fior Keen – March 25, 2013 – 3:13 PM PST
Well that is very interesting, just wild that I found you on here. With such an interesting story. I will have a good look at this Diamond Invention very soon. I will add two photos of the tin here. If you are interested in buying the tin from me you can make an offer. It has been in my family now since my moms grandmother.
Gary Gevisser – March 25, 3:17 PM PST
Just tell me what would make you happy.
Jaklyn Fior Keen – 3:19 PM PST
I would have to check in with my mom and what she thinks seeing as it was hers for all this time. I will do some research if you don’t mind.
Gary Gevisser – 3:20 PM
I’ve waited this long, a few more minutes won’t make any difference to me :))
It means a lot to me. I’m glad you found me.
BTW, I am the designated “male heir” of the “male heir” who received little mention in Chapter 18, THE AMERICAN CONSPIRACY of The Diamond Invention which was first written in 1978, but I decided that to be corrupted wasn’t worth any price.
Jaklyn Fior Keen – 3:33 PM
Well after research and looking at tins from around the time period (had to be before 1967 due to it being in LBS not kgs) I think we will hang onto it. but do not worry If I was going to give/sell it would only be to you since it is from your heritage. I will keep in touch when that times comes.
Gary Gevisser – 3:52 PM
That was weird.
So you are waiting for the can to go up in value; that is what I read.
What in your research could have possibly changed your mind?
I had the best day of my life today, and yesterday, my 56th birthday was the best day of my life.
I am smart enough not to let any disappointment interfere with my enjoyment of life, and to simply play the cards I am dealt as best I can.
Keep smiling and keep me in your thoughts.
Gary
Jaklyn Fior Keen – 3:58 PM
Well nothing really changed my mind, I wasn’t looking from the start to sell it. I remember growing up with it. And I always have an interest in researching things that have dates on them. It has a lot of sentimental value to me as well. There are many pieces I received from my mother from the time period. But like I said if it was going to anyone else it would either my my children or you. More than likely I will hold onto it like my mom did.
Hope your Birthday was wonderful. My mom is the same age of 56. Hope your day goes great.
Jaklyn
Gary Gevisser – 4:08 PM
My offer is $100.
I can put you in touch right now with all my family members and for you to see how many of them would bid it up. I am very confident that none of them would bid against me, and nor will I be offering you a penny more.
Moreover, this offer will only last until I go to sleep. It is now 12:04 am Paris time.
You started out wanting to make a quick buck which is why you were very clear in asking me to make you an offer.
You, and you alone, created negative energy, that only you can now fix.
I only wish you the best, at the same time I think you would agree that I should tell the world our story and so empower the kids to parent the parents who need the most help.
There is no such thing as a problem child, only a problem parent, that I think your mother would also agree with.
Jaklyn Fior Keen – 4:20 PM
You could change that offer to $10,000 and I would say no with the following comments you said after. I talked for a good min with my mother on whether we should just give it to you..Since it would mean so much. And the battle in the decision was actually how much it meant to me on a sentimental level. And I decided to keep it.
And no I never started wanting a quick buck. You asked if I would ”part” with it. You know the saying ” make me an offer I can’t refuse” ? that is where it comes from. Well I can refuse and it will hold a positive place in my memory. The negative started with you and will remain with you.
fair well Jaklyn
Jaklyn Fior Keen then blocked me from responding which was to tell her that a normal person in her shoes would have told me that I could have the tin box for nothing; unless it was all about the money, and even then she should have said that I could have it.
