Exactly 100 years have passed since (arguably) one of the mos violent mine workers strike in the history of South Africa.

How did the South African war (Anglo Boer war) influence the labour force on the Witwatersrand?

Was 1922 a random isolated strike or was it part of “something” bigger?

Prime Minister Smuts  – hero or villain?

Who was Taffy Long?

Why was it a communist revolt or simply a mining strike?

We will explore Aukland Park, Brixton and Fordsburg, tracing the events of the Revolt and also delve into the aggression of the miners and the government by visiting sites relating to the revolt and understand the military set up.

We will Uber from Fordsburg to the Brixton ridge and Aukland park for the first half of the tour and then back to Fordsburg  -which was the last strong hold.

We only have space for 10 guests.

Tour fee is R400 that includes the tour and transport to and from Fordsburg as well as water to keep you going.

Parking is available at 59 Lillian rd in Fordsburg, or uber in!

Gary Gevisser
Robert Sprenger, do you see General Smuts’ overwhelming military force as racist against the striking white mine workers, or do you have a different opinion?
