We need some humor. It is getting a little too serious.

I am going to tell you something very funny. If you don’t know the person, you might not find it funny at all.

Gene Requa who was a very close friend of mine and Marie’s as well as Pypeetoe our super beautiful, super fast Italian Greyhound who Mango mostly takes after, although Mango is smarter than any human we know, but still he cannot feed himself his very healthy organic vegetarian DIEt to die for.

Gene was one of the top car designers and he designed the Studebaker and he owned the last one he designed.

Well into his 90s, Gene would run with me along the cliffs of Del Mar where we lived for most of the year for nearly a decade.

He was lean and trim just the way he was when World War II began and he was assigned to paint camouflage on military vehicles, but he was also the fastest climbing the ropes on the obstacle courses.

BTW, his death was ruled a “suicide” by the local Del Mar police authorities which is more than highly unlikely, as this most proud man took great pride in his positiveness, all part and parcel of [his] physique which was rather spectacular thanks to his decision when he was 40 to cut meat out of his DIEt. The fact that I had not only notified the police several weeks before his death which was a gunshot to the stomach, that there were a bunch of youngsters who had kidnapped Gene and taken him to Las Vegas where he was clearly drugged up in the hope that he would leave them his valuable real estate near the water’s edge of Del Mar, a house he built with his own hands having paid very little for the double lot that was now worth close to $2 million, but that the leader of the “death squad” had called me up threatening to kill me once the police confronted them, which had them quickly returning to Del Mar when Gene was never the same; enough to be highly suspicious of the final police investigation which of course was a cover up because the local residents didn’t want to see their real estate values dropping; you understand of course.

But Gene is now long dead and smiling from ear to ear because I have this very funny story to tell.

Were he listening in and I told him that out of the blue kids around the world were pointing out fat people wherever they came across one, Gene would not only be laughing but he would think it was the funniest thing he had ever heard.

That’s the funny story.

What makes it so very funny to those of us who knew him well is the story told to us by one of Gene’s closest friends Brad who is our most excellent auto mechanic.

Gene and Brad were having a dinner at the local Soup & Salad restaurant in Del Mar and there was a fat man chomping away at his iceceam load after having eaten a gigantic meal.

Gene didn’t recognize the fatso because the fatso was a total stranger which didnt prevent Gene from going up to him, grabbing the ice-cream away and telling him, “You are too fat”. The guy got up wanting to belt Gene but Gene had already sprinted away before the fatso could move a few inches.

Give me a moment. Im having trouble loading up photos of the most positive Gene.
