Jim Dore Gary, until an in my 60’s and have the scars of the oil and gas industry upon me. I included my information as a means of offering direct contact. Of course you do not know me nor me you. It is easy enough to do some research on LinkedIn. After retiring in 2011 at 55, I began looking for something to keep busy much like you. So Vistage offered an opportunity for me to give back and to receive a stipend. You may know chairs can’t make a real living with a single group. That’s my story. So, I wasn’t guiding you to YPO but only replying to let everyone know to look not only at Vistage but other organizations prior to making a decision (please read my original post). Finally, I do believe we are doing good things in our peer to peer groups and the success of my and other groups is the level of experience of the chair and the dynamics of the group. I do this because I enjoy it NOT FOR THE MONEY (what money?). My passion is passing on the experience of my failures and shortcomings so other leaders can improve through and with one another. Thanks for the conversation. I’m out of this on…

Gary Gevisser Jim, I only saw your August 8 response now.
I had difficulty perfectly understanding your first sentence, but what I make of it is that you are in your 60s, and you cut your teeth in the oil and gas industry, which I know a little about because I know the drilling industry like the back of my hand.
Have you heard of De Beers-Anglo American Corporation, the South African based conglomerate which took control of the world’s drilling industry at the turn of the last century, even though De Beers’ sister corporation Anglo American Corporation only came into being in 1917, the same year the United States entered WW I with the official declaration of war in early April 1917 which was not against all the “Central Powers” which President Wilson was not the only official of the United States who felt quite embarrassed and then it was well over a year before US troops saw battle, and when they did, our boys fought very bravely indeed.
That is not to say that the British officials such as British Prime Minister David Lloyd George were oblivious to the delay in American troops making it on to the very bloody battlefields because this delay was right in their face.
In fact a member of the British War Cabinet, South African General Jan Christian Smuts [1870-1950] wrote a letter to Prime Minister George offering to lead American soldiers into battle.
While there was not the Internet or for that matter Facebook available at the time, it didn’t prevent Smuts and PM George from meeting regularly which they did to discuss this very important delay.
When you have someone as esteemed as General Smuts writing a letter which he could have easily crafted during a British War Cabinet session, it takes on greatly added significance.
How do you think the American generals reacted once they heard that the most accomplished Allied General of WW I who got his teeth cut in the Anglo American Boer War of 1899-1902 where the British were the enemy, was saying to them, “I understand that fear has gripped you, but I have the utmost confidence in both your soldiers as well as my ability to lead them into battle?”
Mr. Dore, what you wrote me as a reply did not address my point that you had no business redirecting me to a competing business group to Vistage such as YPO when I have stated very clearly at the outset that I am aware of significant weaknesses which I encountered at Vistage-TEC, and for me to approach YPO or any other organization who I am not as familiar with, would be darnright stupid.
Admit it; you were attempting to distract me; and you took it a step further by suggesting that we have a telephone conversation rather than keep it all very public which is my preference.
Now you also know that I know my war history rather well which is essential in understaind the drilling-oil-gas industry which are inextricably connected.
It is also totally irrelevent whether or not Vistage chairs can or cannot make a living working for Vistage.
You also know that if a very poor beggar got what a chair received then the beggar would be much happier than freezing his buns off, plus you chairs get served a free lunch which not every beggar in the world is afforded.
You have gone on a little too long about the money, and yes it is very much the money that drives individuals to be members of organizations like YPO, TEC-Vistage and the such.
My knowledge is very much about the money, specifically how the money is valued which is never discussed at TEC-Vistage at least not during my tenure.
Moreover, while I was in Israel last September-October I ran into a Vistage official who was totally clueless about how the money is valued and told me point blank that he realized that everything that he had learned in his MBA studies was totally worthless, which it was.
Let me know when you are ready to return to this conversation and have everyone refocus on the valuing of the money.
Have you made any headway in contacting my TEC-Vistage chair Larry King?
BTW, back in the summer of 1987, just a few weeks before Black Monday, October 19th, I turned down an invitation by Lloyd’s of London who fix the price of insurance worldwide to become a “name” in the world’s oldest Old Boys Club which you probably know was formed in 1774, the same year Adam Smith published Wealth of Nations which was two years before the US Declaration of Independence.
You would first of all know that not many individuals turn down such an opportunity especially people such as myself who had such a good finger on the pulse of the financial markets so intertwined with the military-industrial-complex.
Looking forward to your return as well as other Vistage officials coming forward.

Gary Gevisser Jim Dore, just as footnote. In a couple of weeks I am meeting privately with one of the world’s richest multi-billionaires who is also most knowledgeable about the oil-gas industry, and perhaps more so than any other multi-billionaire.
I am quite certain that he will find these discussions as interesting as everyone else including all those who feign how very busy they are doing other things such as still recovering from the exhileration of seeing the last eclipse.

Gary Gevisser George Zhang, I would like this to be as interactive as possible, as well as knowing whether you are a member of Vistage which I spelled incorrectly above?
You have every reason to be intrigued to hear what I have to say, and I would assume you speak for everyone else checking this out, the 213 odd who haven’t commented as well as the 10 others besides for myself who have. Then there are others such as yourself who are not included in the count of “comments” or in th list of those less vocal who simply press on an icon, and it doesnt say very much.
Nor can I figure out what Robert Kaplan was attempting to tell me when he placed up that icon, which you may know what it means?
Just tell me when to get started, and you will see how very brief I can be, and very much on point.

Gary Gevisser There are 214 individuals who have now seen this page and the overwhelming majority will have seen what I have posted.
They would also know that there had to be “some truth” to what I was about to share, and those would be people who don’t know the first thing about me. For those who do, there would be no doubt.
I was in fact the first non-CEO to join TEC as the CEO of the company where I was the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer and essentially running the company both operationally and making the key strategic decisions, was already a member. He thought so highly of me as well as what TEC had done for him that he encouraged his TEC leader to start a group for the “second in command”.
George Zhang would not have gone “mute” but he would know that his deafening silence speaks volumes.
I have good reasoning behind wanting to see “active participation” and that is what all group gatherings are supposed to encourage; and Vistage-TEC officials will no doubt agree.
So yes, you should all be as intrigued as George Zhang was 23 hours ago.

Jim Dore All, this is an interesting exchange. I encourage dialogue that is professional in nature and offer to discuss Vistage with anyone. I am a Vistage Chair in Lafayette, La. jim.dore@vistagechair.com – feel free to reach out and we can schedule a call to provide detailed information that will address your questions. There are a number of groups to consider including: YPO and EO as well as many others.

Gary Gevisser Mr. Dore, I believe in openness. I would think that you would support this totally.
There are no trade secrets that are being discussed here and nor do Vistage members discuss things like trade secrets or anything that is proprietary to their business with other Vistage-TEC members.
Let’s start now with you because I think you are better qualified than this George Zhang who went from so hot to trot to being iced?
My TEC chairma in Los Angeles was Larry King, same spelling as the CNN character but not the same person. Do you know Larry and/or do you know how to reach him so that we can include him in this open dialogue.
Bear in mind it has been 28 years since I last communicated with Larry and nor did we ever “have words”; he could only say good things about me and nor do I forget the important things.
As you know, only liars need good memories to keep track of their lies which is really not possible which is why they keep repeating themselves both the lies and the truths; eventually their bodies suffer horribly.
So lets look at the bright side always.

Gary Gevisser Mr. Dore, let quickly examine the chronology. You decided in your official capacity as a Vistage official to write to me, “feel free to reach out and we can schedule a call to provide detailed information that will address your questions.”
I don’t know your bone fides other than you are an official who I have never met and therefore you wouldn’t know me as well as another official Larry King who knows that I attended a great many TEC-Vistage meetings with my peers, not one of whom would have taken me for a fool because I was always an active participant and always making a point of talking common sense.
By bringing Larry King into the conversation it makes it far more interesting for all those observing, and you would agree that there are more watching this conversation than the 253 using icons to show their presence and the couple of handfull commentators.
If Mr. King is no longer reachable and of course he could be dead, then that is all you need to say, and then I will share my findings.
You would also know that in the course of the past 28 years, in addition to all of us getting older, I made it my business to hold on to my common sense by remaining very healthy. In fact I, at 60, am the same weight as when I was 24 years old and playing my best rugby which during the scrums it is not wise to talk period, let alone bring up weaknesses in the financial-monetary system.
The same with Mr. Greenspan who has never looked healthy to me which did not mean I failed to pay careful attention to what he has previously had to say, and in particular when he started mumbling because that only highlighted the things he said which made sense; and none of it did during his entire 19 years as Fed. chair. starting August 11, 1987 right when I was making a decision to accept Lloyd’s of London’s invitation to join the world’s oldest and most exclusive Old Boy’s club which was open to the general public.
There is of course a much more exclusive and powerful Old Boy’s club which is inextricably linked to Lloyd’s who set the price of insurance worldwide, but let’s hold off on that until you can help me locate Larry King who I was in regular contact with throughout 1987 and a couple of years following.
It is most interesting to me, however, that Greenspan is getting “top billing” this morning on the TV and websites such as drudgereport.com.
The general interest conversation there must be why does he appear to be not sticking to the script which kept him in the Fed chairman job for 19 years as he mumbled his way through everything, unless he has been given specific orders to talk up a storm as he references “ancient history” while avoiding any mention of what got him the job in the first place at Fed. chair. which was his very clear and logical 1966 essay, GOLD AND ECONOMIC FREEDOM and which he steered clear of during those 19 years.
I hope I was not being too repetitive.

Gary Gevisser Mr. Dore, since writing to you last, I haven’t exactly been sitting still. I nearly got bitten by a rattle snake who came fast and directly at me and my dog Mango, and I also lived to write about it.
I have also written over 9,900 words including cutting and pasting what I last wrote you to a little smaller audience than this one, but as you know it is hard to tell how many are watching these proceedings and not making their presence known.
I have, as you would well suspect, been talking about money, which is really what you are all about, although you mostly use words such as “profit” and “efficiency” to attract people to be members of Vistage and grow the number much higher than the number I saw of 20,000 because that would mean more money in all your pockets.
Nothing wrong with that per se. Money is what makes the world go around and we should not be ashamed to say it; because with bigger profits we can be more charitable and help those in need.
So why would you try and pass me off to a competing organization like YPO when you would know that I have heard of the Young Presidents Club but what I know and wish to share relates to my experience with Vistage-TEC and not YPO who membership I never sought.
Yes, I thought that was quite strange.
Strange takes on another meaning when things start to get clearer.
You haven’t come back to me.
Every CEO in the world, including George Soros would be interested when there is total silence from a simple request whether a chair of your organization who I knew well and he knew me well, is still with your organization.
That says if I were to have had a phone chat with you after writing my request via email, you would have tried to have the conversation going differently.
It is even possible that you could have said that I was being rude and belligerant, making out like I some sort of crazy person.
Just so that you know; about 4 years after I last had contact with chair Larry King who handled the Los Angeles region, I became the most trusted advisor of Randolph Apperson Hearst [1915-2000] who was not dead in 1993 because he only died on 18 December 2000.
In 1993 this chairman of the board of Hearst Corporation the largest and most profitable private corporation was very much on top of his game but still he had pains that lingered from the kidnapping and subsequent prosecution of his one daughter Patty which we never got into because we had more important matters to discuss and his experience with his daughter also made him a better listener and weary of people, which is what you would expect.
He never once told me, “Get a move on, get to the point” because as Larry King would tell you, I knew how to speak and write although in the 5 years I ran this company which Larry King thought highly of for good reason because I ran it well, as well as anyone before, and there were many before me and they all screwed up royally and those after me also screwed things up royally because they kept trying to fix something that was not broken, what most of the very professional writing staff would most remember to this day is not my memos because I may have put out 5 memos at the most during the 5 years I ran the company as both COO and CFO, but rather a flowchart showing other executives how to go to the bathroom to do Business #1 and Business #2 without intentionally clogging up the sewer system; I kid you not.
Remember I ended my penultimate posting with the words, “lets look at the bright side always” as we know everything turns out good in the end, and reason why we should be eternally optimistic.

Gary Gevisser Jim Dore you will have seen that moments ago I posted up 272 words above, “There are now… distract”.
As a Vistage-TEC chair, you know that all members are given time to have their say in where they feel they need the most help and to invite suggestions from both the chair and other members.
Usually in the morning session, you bring in a resource who has a particular expertise and then in the afternoon there is the workshop phase.
One of the more memorable resources was an American man who ran Porche over in Germany and he was not a member of the family; he apparently had to work his way up into that position.
He described that his experience was that the decision making process was very democratic but the execution requiring a far more autocratic style which may not be obvious to everyone.
Managing both requires a very careful balancing act and that in turn introduces the “gray area”, the so-called “styles of management”.
I listened more carefully to what this man had to say because he had proven himself in a rather competitive industry in a region of the world where the people work very hard, and there is less chance of German engineers putting up with a bunch of bullshit.
I was eagerly awaiting for him to start “talking numbers” since I had got the management part down really well given how I had risen quickly at the company I was running by getting rid of all the slouch top management including the President who hired me; and that not taking more than 6 months when I was not simply sitting around waiting for the next TEC-Vistage meeting for my peers to tell me how to do my job.
That never happened. It never happened with any of the other resources which were brought in and it was getting to the point when the time away from the office which was 1 day a month, was something I began to consider more.
Still I didn’t give up on TEC-Vistage because I eagerly awaited the first resource to start “talking numbers”.
Nor was that 8 hours, again once every month, so time critical in my schedule because I had the operations of this leading publishing company that specialized in the insurance industry down to the point where I was really only working about 3 hours a week, although if I had to clock in, it would show that I was working a full 8 hour day; and rarely leaving after 5PM.
I also had a long couch to support this “cushy job” and my desk only looked busy when my controller who I had brought over from my previous job which was just a couple of years, my second longest job ever, presented me with the previous month’s cash flow spreadsheets, and that took up about 10 minutes of my time each month.
That 10 minutes was included in the 3 hours average per week I actually considered work. My carpet was very much from the 70s a thick raggy style and rather ugly cool orange in color that I used to practice a lot my putting. That time spent improving my concentration was not factored into those 3 hours.
Those 3 hours were fine-tuning our strategic alliances as I left the day to day running of the business to this group of very fine, very well qualified, exceptionally competent female writers-editors.

Gary Gevisser The black and most beautifull lady on the left, was not the team leader, but she was undoubtedly the most creative writer which didn’t bother any of them including the team leader in the front wearing the yellowish sweater.

Gary Gevisser Notice the young lady in the back with her head held up high. They all exude confidence because that is what you would expect from the best team of writers in the world.

Gary Gevisser In fact several major publishing houses including Simon & Schuster wanted to pay upwards of $10 million, which of course doesn’t sound like much today, and that offer was turned down and nor did the majority owner really counter because he decided that we were all having too much fun and besides what would he do with the money as he had everything he wanted, a cushier job than me, a mansion house just down the road from President Ronald R. Reagan in the Pacific Palisades which was the former home of the Big Band leader Lawrence “Bubblesman” Welks, great spot, one level house, indoor swimming pool and a piano that played on its own.
S & S could have paid each of those 6 young woman, all no more than in their mid-20s a $1 million each and with the change left over given them nice bonuses at the end of the year.
You know how easy it is to poach.
Im not talking about how to make the best poached eggs.
There is also nothing illegal about getting their head hunters to do the job of a head hunter.
Nor are there really scruples when it comes to surviving in this dog eat dog world and besides with everyone having increasingly shorter attention span, who would care. All that would matter was S & S’ bottom line.
Today that would be the thing to do because it is all cut-throat and no one really knows what tomorrow will bring.
For example. Bezos could come in during the lunch break and after “delvering” [sic] the Whole Foods order offer those same 6 women a ride on his space shuttle when it is ready to launch as he competes against the South African Musk to be the first to offer us humans a one way ticket to Mars where we will unfortunately or fortunately die; at least those signing up with Musk for that one way journey which he says he plans to take.

Gary Gevisser Changing one’s mind back in the late 1980s which is when I left this company after my 5 year stint, was allowed as well.
But there was a sense of integrity amongst the world’s best team players and which people like S & S understood; not that S & S were all moralistic because they weren’t, it is just that the way people were still being raised by their moral families, they couldn’t be that easily bought.
Also this is what I also understood, which is why I made it that much more difficult to poach. One would have been easy but then we wouldn’t have had a competitive business anyhow. To poach 6 of the best would have had at least one of them letting me know and then I would have put the company into play and then it would have got interesting because I would have used S & S as a “stalking horse”.
You would agree that there are some valuable lessons that I am imparting today which you don’t come across in every Vistage-TEC meeting, and I still haven’t really introduced me.
I am waiting for a well-known Israeli newspaper to get back to me on whether they are going to publish my “open letter” to Israel Prime Minister Netanyahu which I knew that I had got their attention well before submitting it, as they replied to my initial reply enthusiastically and even more so when I followed up with more detail on my background.
Mr. Jim Dore, are you ever planning on getting back to me?

Gary Gevisser Mr. Jim Dore, what would you say would be a reasonable number of people coming forward saying that they want to hear about my knowledge of “talking numbers” before I should proceed by cutting quickly to the chase?
20 or 120 or 2000 or just 1?

Gary Gevisser There are now 299 odd active viewers of this discussion and the number of us leaving comments remains at 12.
That 299 number obviously does not include all those who are just playing voyeur which would a great many more than the 129 odd individuals/groups on my one group chat FORGETFULNESS where I just ended a rather long posting with the following:
Soon we will be getting back to the Big Picture, Global Sodom & Gemorah where the lack of opposition to nuclear weapons development trickles down into your very souls, and to focus on Dr. @Geoffrey Rothwell Phd, principal economist for the Nuclear Energy Agency-Organization of Economic Cooperation & Development who if his last paycheck is June 30, 2018, means that he has 328 days remaining to be useful.
There is also Vistage who remain quiet and the numbers of active viewers continue to increase, and no one has forgotten my “open letter” to Netanyahu, “Why put it on the shoulders of the next generation?” which only a very small fraction of the people who know me have seen, and take my word for it they are all very quiet.
It will also tell you a lot if Haaretz decide not to publish it because one of their greatest fears is why it is no newspapers in Israel or anywhere else explain the business of war to viewers such as you, including all the so softspoken presenters of shows like Public Broadcasting Radio who the right wingers hate to death without even realizing that is exactly what the producers of shows like PBS are mostly designed to do, apart from distract.

Michelle Watson I am confused. When I go to your Facebook page it has a different company name for your web address. And when you click on it, it takes you to a broken link for a third company’s name.
